When you ask a kid to draw the sun, it’s always a bright bowl of light with rays stretching outward. Honestly, I never truly saw the sun like that — until I went to Madagascar. Along its north coast, the skies are free from light and the air’s restless noise. Dust and water dance in the ocean air, turning even the rainiest evenings into quiet, unexpected light shows.
What you see in the first photo is retreating sunlight, partly blocked by a mountain or distant clouds on the horizon. Combined with clean air, minimal pollution, and countless dust and water particles floating in the tropical atmosphere, the evening skies become living versions of those childhood drawings.
